Seattle native, Blake Snell, was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round of the 2011 draft out of Shorewood High School in Washington. He made his Major League debut in April of 2016 and posted solid seasons in each of the first two years of his career.
Snell broke out in 2018, going 21-5 and earning the American League Cy Young Award. He led the league in both wins and ERA (1.89) and was named to the AL All-Star team. He finished the season strong, winning American League Pitcher of the Month honors in both August and September.
Last year, Snell led the Rays to the franchise's first World Series appearance in 12 years. He posted a 2.70 ERA and struck out 18 batters in 10 innings in two Series starts, though Tampa Bay lost to the Dodgers in six games.
Snell spent the first five years of he career with Tampa Bay before being traded to San Diego last December.
