How Sleep Ergonomics Can Help Improve Your Sleep

Posted by Brenan Okumu on

Everything from the mattress you’re sleeping on to the temperature in your room plays a part in ensuring that we have optimal sleep each and every night. As we know, sleep is important and we must do all we can to prioritize it to meet the demands of our day to day life. A lot goes into a good night's rest. Ergonomics, or the study of people’s efficiency in their working environment, is commonly used in an office setting, and did you know that ergonomics is crucial to how you sleep as well?

At Bear, we love to work with customers and figure out different ways to improve their sleep. We are aware of all the different factors that can either create or hinder a sleep environment. A few subtle changes here and there can make a dramatic impact on not only your sleep but your overall health.

Here are some things you can improve on to get the most ergonomic sleep possible.

1. The Right Mattress For The Right Style

As we’ve talked about before, not everyone sleeps in the same position due to having varying levels of comfort. Having the proper mattress is necessary not just for comfort but also sleep posture - side, back, stomach, or combination of the three. With those reasons in mind, the Bear Elite Hybrid is an excellent choice.

Good Housekeeping rated the Bear Elite Hybrid as the Best Ergonomic Mattress. Reasons being -

  •  Copper-infused Memory Foam for a highly responsive comfort layer that allows for cooling.
  •  Zoned & Cut Comfort Foam provides pressure point relief to release muscle tension and provide lumbar support.
  • Individually encased pocketed spring coils for long-term, exceptional comfort and support. Each coil reacts to your body’s pressure independently which minimizes and reduces movement.
  • Edge-to-edge coils along the perimeter reinforce your sleep surface to reduce "rolling off" if you sleep on the edge.

If you're looking to take your sleep even further and make your sleep as ergonomic as possible,  try placing your mattress on an Adjustable Flex Bed, which comes with a zero gravity preset so that you can feel as weightless as possible. Sleeping on the Adjustable  Flex Bed allows provides health benefits such as -

  • Better Blood Circulation throughout the body.
  • Improved Digestion by keeping the body upright while using either a preset or custom setting.
  • Ease of Getting Out of Bed by having the legs of the base able to be adjusted to a preferred height.

2. Adding in Accessories for a More Comfortable Sleep

Obviously we don’t just sleep on a mattress by itself. Once we have the appropriate mattress, a lot goes into making it “ours.” This is done with the help of our accessories - pillows, sheet sets, protectors, or toppers. Not just simply for decoration, accessories help our sleep in a lot of ways.

We offer many options when it comes to accessories. Maybe you want a pillow that will help you stay cool all night, try using the Bear Pillow. Not only will it provide cooling with its cool-to-the-touch cover, but it’ll help you remain comfortable throughout the night since it can be used with any sleep posture.  Or perhaps you simply want to keep your mattress as clean as possible, why not the Bear Protector? Whether the issue is stains, dust Mites, and/or liquid Damage, it doesn’t matter. The Bear Protector not only provides a protective barrier against the aforementioned issues but also provides breathability while you sleep to maintain cooling while you rest.

Everyone is different, so customize your sleep set up for you with any one of these options. Add either the cooling, comfort, or the protection you were looking for.

3. Thermoregulation – Reduce Body Heat to Improve Sleep

Another key to good sleep is body temperature. As we prepare to sleep, our body temperature drops and signals are sent to our brain. Some people want to sleep as cool as possible, while others prefer being temperature neutral. According to WebMD, our body temperature drops 1 to 2 degrees while we are sleeping. This allows for us to remain cool, internally while we are resting.

Now we previously discussed the Bear Elite Hybrid and how it is designed for comfort  but it also provides top notched cooling. The Elite Hybrid has a quilted, tufted cover that includes Phase Change Material (PCM). With the use of PCM cooling technology, the Elite Hybrid cover fabric regulates mattress temperature and facilitates crisp sleep conditions creating a cooling sensation and managing the temperature of the mattress.

On top of that, each Bear mattress has built-in Sleep Recovery Technology and uses Celliant-powered fabric to improve your body’s ability to regulate your temperature. This keeps you more comfortable at night, and helps you recover quicker from a long day.

4. Shutting Off Devices

Last but not least, when it’s time to sleep, it’s time to sleep. Turn off all devices and distractions. The longer a light is left on or the longer you watch/view something will delay the time it takes you to fall asleep. By shutting off all devices, you’ll be able to get the rest you are struggling for with those devices off. We recommend turning off any device you might be using 30 minutes before bedtime.

All in all, to get the best sleep possible requires optimizing your sleep environment.  Your mattress, accessories, and other surrounding devices must be taken into account before bed-time. Rest assured that here at Bear, we have everything you need to get the best night's sleep possible.
